Southwest Dekalb High School Bands

"The Best Band In The Land"

Band Booster Executive Board

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

On behalf of the 2009-2010 Executive Board, I would like to welcome you to an exciting Music Education year.  Our dynamic Director of Bands, James Seda has outlined an exciting and challenging year for the Southwest DeKalb Band program.  The Executive Board would like to thank Nicholas Thomas and LaNekia Pruitt for their many years of service to the Southwest DeKalb Band program. We will truly miss Mr. Thomas and Ms. Pruitt and wish them all the success that they greatly deserve.  The Executive Board would like to welcome our new Associate Director of Bands, Gabriel Arnold and our new Auxiliary Coordinator, Stasha Ogletree to the Southwest DeKalb Band program.  We give them our love and support.

Academics is still the major focus of the Southwest DeKalb Band program. Our Academic Committee under the leadership of Eleanor Fennell and Crystal Harris will be monitoring students’ grades every three weeks to ensure that our students are passing their classes and to provide tutorial services when needed.  The Academic Committee will continue our wonderful relationship with the State of Georgia Department of Human Resources program YouthVibe. YouthVibe will continue to offer tutorial services provided by certified teachers for all of our students immediately after school to assist with homework.

Parents, you are the key to the success or failure of the Southwest DeKalb Band Program. There are approximately two hundred students currently participating with the Southwest DeKalb Band program and only about fifteen- percent of the parents are actively involved with the program.  Parents, remember that these children are our future and if they were not involved with the Southwest DeKalb Band program, then chances are they would be involved in gangs, drugs, alcohol, and/or early sexual encounters.  The Executive Board is requesting that all parents volunteer for at least thirty minutes once a week to help provide your children with a safe and loving environment. See you in front of the Southwest DeKalb Band Room.

Sincerely,

Dr. Elaine Booker
